Seal Beach
Naval Weapons Station
Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach is a weapons and munitions loading, storage and maintenance facility. It also encloses the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge.
135 ppt of PFOS/PFOA were found in the drinking water. Seal Beach received its water from contaminated wells from the Eastern Municipal Water District, which has taken the poisoned well off-line. The Navy disclosed that Eastern is working with March Air Reserve Base, the source of the contamination, to determine clean-up requirements.

See below for thousands of pages documenting contamination at Seal Beach dating back to 1985. Many of the most sensitive records are not available without filing a lengthy and costly Freedom of Information Act Request, (FOIA).

Contaminants Detected 8 EXCEED EWG HEALTH GUIDELINES
20 Total Contaminants
EWG's drinking water quality report shows results of tests conducted by the water utility and provided to the Environmental Working Group by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as well as information from the U.S. EPA Enforcement and Compliance History database (ECHO). For the latest quarter assessed by the U.S. EPA (January 2019 - March 2019), tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards.
Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.
Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.
The best way to ensure clean tap water is to keep pollution out of source water in the first place.
