Radio Transmitter Facility
Dixon Naval Radio Transmitter Facility is located in Dixon, California for military radio transmissions in the shortwave and VLF range. Dixon covers an area of 1314 acres and was operated continuously by the US Navy until 1979, when it was converted to a contractor-operated facility. The tallest structure of the facility are two VLF-transmission masts, each 637 ft tall. More on Dixon.
One drinking water well was tested and found to contain 260 ppt of PFOS/PFOA. That's poisonous.
The Navy is providing alternative drinking water. The system was retested and regional water quality board was notified. The Navy will continue to track issues as the state investigates the source. The Navy will continue to provide alternate water to the installation. Nearby county property tested their wells which are in a deeper aquifer and had no detections of PFOS/PFOA. No known source of contaminants on Navy property, state has been advised and is looking for potential sources.

EWG HEALTH GUIDELINES
EWG's drinking water quality report shows results of tests conducted by the water utility and provided to the Environmental Working Group by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as well as information from the U.S. EPA Enforcement and Compliance History database (ECHO). For the latest quarter assessed by the U.S. EPA (January 2019 - March 2019), tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards.
Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.
Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.
The best way to ensure clean tap water is to keep pollution out of source water in the first place.

Erin Brockovich fought Chromium 6 contamination. But that was a movie. And in the minds of most Americans the problem was dealt with and the public was protected and the story ended.
