Parks Air Force Base
Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA), commonly known as Camp Parks, is a United States Army facility located in Dublin, California that is currently a semi-active mobilization and training center for U.S. Army Reserve personnel to be used in case of war or natural disaster.
Parks was the site of radiation experiments on animals, humans, bunkers, and crops between 1959 and 1983. Some experiments included testing cobalt-60 on sheep and growing crops in plutonium-spiked soil.
Ten numbered buildings were associated with the test facility:
Building 130 - Process Radioactive Soil Samplers
Building 131 - Hot Cells and Laboratory
Building 305 - Greenhouse Laboratory/Beta Radiation Exposure of Plants
Building 310 - Office and Headquarters
Building 311 - Surface Roughness Experiments
Building 312 - Plant Storage/Uptake Studies
Building 331 - Shop and Change House/Personnel Decontamination Station
Buildings 533, 553, and 570 - Radioactive Fallout Behavior Experiments
The last three buildings were transferred to the Department of Justice in 1972 and demolished to make way for the construction of Federal Correction Institution, Dublin. Several other test areas were associated with the site: the Plant Root Uptake Area between buildings 331 and 332, Explosive Test Pond, Surface Roughness Area, Gamma Radiation Range, Animal Farm, Fallout Shelter, and Land Target Complexes.

EWG's drinking water quality report shows results of tests conducted by the water utility and provided to the Environmental Working Group by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as well as information from the U.S. EPA Enforcement and Compliance History database (ECHO). For the latest quarter assessed by the U.S. EPA (January 2019 - March 2019), tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards.
Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.
Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.
The best way to ensure clean tap water is to keep pollution out of source water in the first place.
