El Centro Naval Air Facility
Naval Air Facility El Centro is located six miles northwest of El Centro, in Imperial County. El Centro is under the jurisdiction of Navy Region Southwest and serves both as temporary home port to military units conducting air-to-air and bombing training, and as the winter training home of the Blue Angels.
See below for thousands of pages documenting contamination at El Centro dating back to 1991. Many of the most sensitive records are not available without filing a lengthy and costly Freedom of Information Act Request, (FOIA). El Centro Naval Air Facility |
El Centro California Naval Air Facility is identified as a DOD installation with known or suspected releases of PFOS/PFOA, according to a DOD Report to Congress on Aqueous Film-Forming Foam - Nov. 3, 2017. No testing results were made public regarding the base, only that it is likely contaminated with the ”forever chemicals.”

19 Total Contaminants
EWG's drinking water quality report shows results of tests conducted by the water utility and provided to the Environmental Working Group by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as well as information from the U.S. EPA Enforcement and Compliance History database (ECHO). For the latest quarter assessed by the U.S. EPA (January 2019 - March 2019), tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards.
Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.
Legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years.
The best way to ensure clean tap water is to keep pollution out of source water in the first place.
